Autonomy does not appear suddenly. It builds from shared use to gradual responsibility, with boundaries that change based on age, task, and observable maturity.

Role of the family
Good support does not consist of reading all conversations or prohibiting by default. It consists of making purposes, limits, checks and ways to help visible before a problem appears.

Asking “what were you thinking before?” or "how would you check?" It reveals more than inspecting only the final product and allows intervention without turning each use into an interrogation.
Decisions about predetermined schedules, accounts, privacy, spaces, and tools reduce conflict because they do not depend solely on willpower.
An educational aid is safer when it can be reduced. Re-explaining, deciding or creating without AI proves that the ability still belongs to the person.

Study and homework
The familiar question may be simple: “what part do you need to learn and what part do you just need to produce?” If learning is the goal, the solution must come later than the attempt.
Ask one question at a time, wait for the attempt, and offer the minimum help necessary. The student retains the decisions.
Create examples and variations after learning the procedure. The answers are reviewed with reliable material.
It is used on one's own text to locate ambiguities, assumptions or counterarguments, without replacing the author's voice.
Deliver the product before the effort that was to build the capacity. It can improve the task and worsen the reading of what has been learned.
Domestic protocol
Four movements that fit into a short conversation.
The child says what he understands, what he has tried and where the blockage appears.
A minimal question or help is requested; the final work has not yet been delivered.
The tool is closed and the step is reconstructed with words, drawing or your own example.
A source is revised or a variant is resolved without AI.
Ask what uses are permitted, how aid should be declared, and what evidence of the process is expected. Avoid punishing a rule that was never explained or doing at home what the activity was intended to teach.
Observable signs
Observe frequency, intensity, duration, context and consequences. An isolated episode calls for conversation; A pattern that grows or causes damage requires reducing risk and seeking appropriate support.

Reduce access, accompany, remove data, change tools or introduce a test without AI for an agreed period.
Coordinate with the center or relevant professionals. In the event of threat, exploitation, sexual content, self-harm or immediate danger, prioritize safety and urgent local help.

Do not use errors to ridicule or score intelligence.
Alternate topics that people other than the family know.
Celebrate a good correction as much as an initial success.
Stop if the activity produces tension or invades privacy.
Conditions and inequality
Time, income, language, health, accessibility, digital literacy, and school coordination change what a family can do. Recommendations must be adapted without lowering rights or expectations.
A recommendation that requires constant monitoring may not be feasible. Prioritize few observable rules, well-configured accounts and a weekly moment of conversation.
A better subscription, your own device or a stable connection should not be confused with greater capacity. Every educational activity needs an equivalent alternative.
Quality varies between languages, varieties and local contexts. A response that ignores the family reality requires more contrast, not that the family abandons its language.
Reading aloud, simplification of the format, dictation or translation can increase autonomy. Support must remove a barrier without lowering the intellectual objective.
Knowing how to ask questions and recognize a source is learned knowledge. It is advisable to teach it explicitly and not attribute errors to a lack of interest or intelligence.
Home and school rules may differ. Before sanctioning, clarify what uses are permitted, how aid is declared, and how the process will be evaluated.
Minimum viable plan
A rule: Do not share personal data or documents of other people.
A weekly conversation: teach a use that helped and another that raised doubts.
A test: explain or redo without AI something important that was done with it.
Evidence and limits
Specific research on generative AI in family life is still limited. That is why we combine direct studies of learning with evidence on mediation, screens, memory and children's rights, indicating when a conclusion is a prudent inference.
In 100 studies, background television and program volume were negatively associated with cognitive outcomes; joint use was positively associated. They are small or moderate associations, not automatic causality.
