Plasticity throughout life

Adulthood is not a cognitive plateau.

Different capabilities change at different times. Experience and knowledge can grow as processing speed or new problem solving follow other trajectories. These group tendencies do not predict a person: education, health, sleep, activity, context and experience introduce great variability. The useful question is not "am I losing intelligence?" but "what capacity do I need to retain for my current life and what support allows me to continue participating?"

Learning continues

Plasticity does not disappear, even if the pace, strategies and necessary conditions change. Spaced practice, recovery and feedback remain relevant throughout life.

Changing is not getting sick

Normal aging, fatigue, lack of practice, cognitive decline and dementia are not equivalent. The website does not attribute symptoms to AI nor does it replace a health assessment.

Compensating is also autonomy

Using reminders, simplifying an interface, or receiving language support can be adaptive when you maintain engagement, safety, and agency. The question is who retains purpose and choice.

The questions observe behaviors that can be modified: start, explain, contrast, continue and practice. They do not evaluate ability, personality or health, and the score is only used to choose a work point.

How accommodation appears

Using AI a lot is not the same as depending on it.

Frequency alone says little. The relevant signal is functional: what happens when you should initiate, understand, verify, or continue without assistance, and whether the delegation is reversible when the context changes. Two people can use the same tool for the same amount of time and retain very different degrees of autonomy.

You delegate an accessory operation to devote attention to more important objectives, relationships or decisions. It remains adaptive if you can detect failures, change tools and recover the process when necessary.

Functional signs

When should you review the habit?

An isolated signal does not diagnose anything and can have many explanations. Look for repeated changes with respect to what you could previously initiate, understand or verify; observe in which tasks they appear, since when and if they improve by recovering practice, rest or human support.

You don't know how to start a known task without first opening the tool.

The result seems correct, but you can't reconstruct its logic.

You detect family errors or absurd numerical results worse.

You feel disproportionate anxiety when AI is not available.

You read, write, converse, or practice procedures less frequently.

You confuse the quality of the joint product with what you have personally learned.

What does this case study support?

The research makes it possible to describe cognitive trajectories, offloading mechanisms, and associations with technology, but does not yet offer a single measure of “cognitive dependence on AI.” Each reference is used within its scope and direct evidence is distinguished from hypotheses that still need longitudinal follow-up.
